The Nonproliferation Policy Education Center (NPEC) is a nonprofit, bipartisan, educational organization founded in 1994 to educate policymakers, journalists, and university professors about international strategic weapons proliferation threats and alternative policies and measures to counter them. The Center, located at 1600 Wilson Boulevard in Arlington, Virginia, is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fill the positions of Research Coordinator and Program Coordinator.

Research Coordinator

Job Description

  • Edit and format NPEC edited volumes, as well as Executive Director’s PowerPoints, primers, and lectures for NPEC’s online course on nuclear policy, public events, and other presentations
  • Editing and research support for the completion of a textbook on nuclear policy
  • Marketing NPEC Public Policy Fellowship program and Nuclear Policy 101 course
  • Logistical coordination of Public Policy Fellowship (including soliciting and reviewing applications, correspondence of all relevant information to fellows)
  • Work with Program Coordinator to plan annual Public Policy Fellowship retreat
  • Work with Executive Director to plan conferences/workshops related to strengthening course offerings and execute with the assistance of Program Coordinator
  • Provide teaching assistance for Executive Director’s directed study students
  • Conduct research on assigned topics
  • Manage and update the course website
  • Record, edit, and upload course and lecture videos
  • Marketing publications
  • Generate ideas for educational component of NPEC’s work

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree required
  • 1-2 years of experience with editing and publishing
  • Interest in nuclear policy and research
  • Ability to write quickly and concisely
  • Must be an avid reader with intellectual curiosity
  • Detailed-oriented and organized
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office
  • Must have strong multi-tasking, communication, and time management abilities
  • Must be able to initiate and complete all aspects of the job with minimal support
  • Additional IT skills highly desirable: Adobe InDesign, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop; basic HTML for website management; Dropbox and Google

Proposed Start Date: June 10, 2019
Benefits: Health Insurance (HSA), Transportation Stipend, and 401(k) following probationary period.

Program Coordinator

Job Description

  • Schedule speaking engagements, panels, and travel for the Executive Director and maintain his calendar to include all relevant information
  • Handle logistics and overall management of NPEC program and outreach meetings and events, including booking travel, venue arrangements, contract negotiations, and participant information tracking, under the supervision of the Deputy Director
  • Work with the Research Coordinator to administer NPEC’s Public Policy Fellowship and plan annual Public Policy Fellowship Retreat
  • Work with the Deputy Director to develop budgets, agendas, and participant material for events
  • Liaise between universities and speakers for NPEC’s Speakers’ Consortium series
  • Update and maintain the organization’s contact list and the email blasts list
  • Update and maintain the organization's website, including daily maintenance, posting papers/documents, and monitoring the web for any media postings about NPEC
  • Manage NPEC’s communications including email correspondence, social media accounts, posting research updates and event videos
  • Support office operations as needed

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree required
  • 1-2 years of experience with event planning or administration
  • Professional writing skills
  • Interest in office/program and event management
  • Detailed-oriented and organized
  • Mastery of Microsoft Office
  • Must have strong multi-tasking, communication, and time management abilities
  • Must be able to initiate and complete all aspects of the job with minimal support
  • Additional IT skills highly desirable (website maintenance, HTML, social media, Adobe programs, Dropbox)
